Chen Ziqiang was born in 1977 in Chenjiagou. He is the 20th generation descendant of the Chen lineage, the oldest son of Grandmaster Chen Xiaoxing, nephew of Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang, and great-grandson of legendary Taijiquan master Chen Fake. Highly regarded for his Taijiquan, Chen Ziqiang has won gold medals in many national tournaments in hand forms, weapons forms, pushing hands, and free fights. He is the chief coach of the Chen Village Taijiquan School, producing many champions in national competitions. His approach to teaching is pragmatic and generous, with a clear and concise method of breaking down complex movements into component parts, aiding in developing correct posture and transition movements for both beginners and advanced students.
Three years ago, when news broke that Taijiquan had been declared a world intangible cultural heritage on December 17, 2020, 43-year-old Taijiquan coach Chen Ziqiang was teaching a class in his hometown of Chenjiagou Village Wenxian County, Henan Province, China, which believed to be the birthplace of Taijiquan. Chenjiagou has become a famous Tai Chi centre with more than 100 professional Taijiquan coaches, and Taijiquan has become a compulsory class in Wenxian County schools. Chen and his family are direct descendants of the creator of Chen style Taijiquan, Chen Wangting. Following the inscription of Taijiquan as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006, Chen Ziqiang was involved in the application work to have it declared a world intangible cultural heritage.
